Volunteering at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital
This began in the late 90's as a school project while taking early childhood education classes (ECE) from DeAnza College.
I had just taken the VELA - Voluntary Extended Leave of Absence from American Airlines City Ticket Office at Foster City to raise and be near my children, thanks to my then Supervisor, Willie Navarrette that said, "You will never regret it" and she was right.
One of our projects was to volunteer time at the Stanford Shopping Center's Christmas Tree to help shoppers pick a gift card wish off the tree for a child at LPCH - Lucile Packard Children's Hospital. I then transitioned to volunteering on Saturdays at the FRC - Family Resource Center, distributing books and movies to the children and their families throughout the hospital.
The next position was reading bedside to the children and distributing iPads. As commuting from San Martin became more difficult on a consistent basis, I then began volunteering for special projects: Bereavement Ceremonies, Scamper Race, Race Registration and projects at the Ronald McDonald Center.
