Alleviating the Squeeze - Tesla FSD
The Senior segment of the population could very well be the next huge wave of drivers purchasing Teslas, primarily to retain their independence and Teslas for its FSD, safety and efficiency of ownership costs.
While at mom's in Hawaii last week, a guy from SunRun knocked on the door and said depending on her utility bill, he could install solar panels and a Tesla powerwall for free. She was napping and I didn't want to disturb her but told my brother who will be moving in with her.
My son had worked for Tesla at Santana Row but also did energy sales for Tesla at Home Depot.

Having gone through 5 years with former in-laws with dementia/alzheimers and dad with ALS before they all passed, there's a few things I learned.
I was enrolled at USC's first year's Master's program on Aging Services Management but decided at that time it wasn't my passion---maybe it's time to reconsider and reapply! (My kids asked, "Mom, how did you get accepted?" ...oh yee of little faith
I had wondered what was worse, having your mind intact but no body function control (ALS), or a diminished mind (alzheimers) but still having your body intact.
Because of having first hand experience with the above diseases and all of the doctors, nursing homes, etc, neither is better.
What I did learn:
1. The elderly want to remain as independent as long as possible. The FSD and summoning features will help them and keep them safer in their cars, as well as others, on the road at a fraction of the cost of Uber drivers, etc.
2. No waiting on family, friends, public transportation, rides...not sure why many are so impatient...maybe because of their bladder or nap time or wanting to rush back to their familiar routines.
3. Quantity of life becomes a higher priority than quality of life. When the doctors at Stanford all suggested it was time to let dad go because he was on a vent and food peg, he opted just to remain alive as long as possible. Over time and thanks to Good Samaritan docs, where he was eventually transferred, before a private nursing home, dad was able to eat solid food again.
4. Easy plug-in handle to recharge car. No gas islands to trip over or car maintenance issues....tires, brakes, oil changes, etc.
5. EV tax credit if applicable and HOV lanes. No penalties, fast track passes, tickets, stuck in traffic.
6. Will save on utility and gas bills, possibly pushing them to credits which can help all on fixed incomes.
