Your Home Is an Asset: What SF Tech Week Day 1 Says to Founders Buying in the Bay
San Francisco Tech Week opens today, Monday, October 5, and runs through Sunday, October 11. It is presented by a16z as a decentralized week of independently hosted events across the city. If you are in town for the week, you already feel the density: panels, rooftops, morning runs, and late rooms that stretch from Mission Bay to the Presidio.
I am Annette DiResta of The DiResta Group. I write for founders, executives, and relocating talent who treat home the way they treat an operating company: with clarity, documentation, and a long horizon. Day 1 of Tech Week has a surprisingly direct real estate signal, and it is the one I want you to notice first.

Your home as a managed asset
Tonight in the Financial District, UP2HOMES Inc and Nixon Peabody host "Bringing AI and Asset Management Intelligence to Your Home," 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM, at Nixon Peabody, 1 Embarcadero Center, Floor 32. The event page lists speakers including Ilya Strebulaev of Stanford GSB, Dave Selinger of Deep Sentinel (listed on the page as a Redfin co-founder), David Yang of Newo.ai, and Nick Davidov of DVC.
That title is the story. Founders who build and buy well already know a primary residence or estate is not only a lifestyle choice. It is an asset that needs maintenance plans, insurability, records, and the same calm discipline you bring to a portfolio company. When clients come to Trevor and me, we talk about how a home is held, how it is documented, and how it fits the rest of a family's capital plan. That conversation belongs in FiDi as much as it belongs in a living room in Morgan Hill.
Built in SF, with commercial real estate in the room
This afternoon, Resource Commercial Real Estate hosts "Built in SF" with Garry's List and the SF Chamber of Commerce, 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM, at Yes SF Headquarters, 220 Montgomery Street. Nearby, RocketRide hosts "Builders x Bosses x Beers" on the rooftop at Club 345, 345 California Street, 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM, with Monaco, Hotdata, and Cushman & Wakefield named on the event page.
For a buyer weighing a city pied-a-terre against a South Bay primary home, that FiDi cluster is a confidence check. The week is not only software demos. Commercial real estate, chamber leadership, and operators who still bet on San Francisco are in the same towers where many of you will raise, hire, and close.

A Day 1 neighborhood map (verified venues only)
If you love a room, look at the neighborhood around it. These are public addresses or named places from today's verified event pages. Where a page says the address is shared after RSVP, I leave the street blank on purpose.
Financial District and Embarcadero. Fenwick & West's preventive-health panel is at One Front Street, 1 Front Street. Silicon Valley Bank's Experience Center at 532 Market Street hosts daytime programming. Tonight's homes-as-assets panel is at 1 Embarcadero Center. The FARR Summit after-party lands at Shack15, 1 Ferry Building, Suite 201.
SoMa. The Founders & Funders Mixer is on the rooftop at 555 Bryant Street. Eon's fireside is at Dawn Club, 10 Annie Street. Fintech House is at Salesforce Tower, 415 Mission Street.
South Beach and Oracle Park. Airwallex hosts a Founders Dinner on the Field with Barry Bonds as a special guest per the event page, at Oracle Park, 24 King Street. MotherDuck, Braintrust, and Modal host "Ship, Scale, Sail," a Bay cruise listed at 24 Willie Mays Plaza.
Mission Bay. The official Fireworks x a16z kickoff, with support from Vercel, ElevenLabs, and Stripe, is 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM on "one of SF's most iconic rooftops" in Mission Bay. The exact address is shared upon RSVP. Seamaphore's open house is upstairs at San Francisco Boat Works, 835 Terry A Francois Boulevard.
Union Square. Forerunner's USER EXPERIENCE gallery opens at 236 Powell Street and runs through November 1 per the event page.
Presidio and Crissy Field. Contextful AI Summit is at Presidio Golf Course, 300 Finley Road. Soma's sunrise cold plunge is at Crissy Field East Beach.
No prices or market stats here. This is a map of where the week actually lives, so you can feel which blocks fit how you work and how you rest.

Waterfront lifestyle, boats, and Bay access
Day 1 also leans into the water. Hack Alcatraz with Cloudflare and Kling AI boards at 5:45 PM from Hornblower Landing, 3 The Embarcadero. BDev Ventures and Western Alliance Bank host a B2B Founders Sail from Pier 39. Add the Ship, Scale, Sail cruise and Seamaphore's maritime incubator, and you get a clear UHNW thread: Bay access, boats, and evenings that end on the water.
That lifestyle is why some founders keep a San Francisco footprint for the week and a quieter home base for the rest of the year. The South Bay, including Morgan Hill, is where many of our clients sleep, raise families, and protect outdoor space after a dense week in the city.
Morning runs and executive wellness
If your best thinking happens before the first meeting, Day 1 starts early. Soma's cold plunge is at Crissy Field. Domu hosts the Clementino Classic. Signal Run is on the Embarcadero (address on RSVP). CodeRabbit's "Rabbits on the Run" starts at 261 Steuart Street. TokenTechWalk is listed for Golden Gate Park.
These are not soft extras. For operators who travel hard, the morning routine is part of how a city either works or does not.

International and relocating talent have dedicated rooms today as well. Business Sweden hosts Swedish House. The Consulate General of Switzerland hosts a Sea Cliff breakfast. "Asia-to-US: The AI-Leverage Playbook" is at 300 Grant Avenue. Co Ventures and Airtree host Aussie-style drinks. Pygma hosts Latino Tech Week coffee.
If you are landing for the first time, the first housing question is rarely a listing link. It is whether you want walk-to-work density in SoMa or FiDi, waterfront living near South Beach, or a primary estate south of the city with an easy week-in-SF rhythm. Trevor and I help founders answer that without pressure and without theater.
Close: a South Bay home base for a city week
Tech Week will fill your calendar. What I hope you leave with is a clearer sense of how home fits the company you are building. The strongest Day 1 signal for me is still that Embarcadero panel: treat the house as an asset, then choose the neighborhood that matches how you actually live.
If you are in San Francisco this week and thinking about a pied-a-terre, a primary home in Morgan Hill or elsewhere in the South Bay, or a quieter search after the parties end, email us. Prefer email. We will answer directly.
