Stock, Savings, and Square Footage: What SF Tech Week Day 3 Says to Founders Buying in the Bay

6 min read

Welcome to the middle of SF Tech Week. The mirrored official calendar shows Wednesday, October 7 as the peak day of the week, and you can feel it: breakfasts in the Financial District, a summit on Van Ness, cruises on the Bay, and rooftops from Rincon Hill to Telegraph Hill.

I am Annette DiResta of The DiResta Group. I work with founders, executives, and relocating talent who are ready to turn years of building into a place to live. Day 1 was about treating the home as an asset. Day 2 was about planning liquidity before the exit. Day 3 asks the next question out loud: once the equity is real, how does it become a home?

When equity starts to look like a down payment

Wednesday's calendar is packed with founders, operators, and capital allocators, and that is when the housing questions get more concrete. A vesting schedule, a tender offer, or a fresh round can change what is possible for a Bay Area purchase, but each one has its own timing. How lenders look at RSUs, options, and liquidity events; when to sell shares, including taxes; and whether a city pied-a-terre or a South Bay primary home fits the week you actually live: those are the questions Trevor and I hear most often from tech buyers.

Before anyone writes an offer, we want your lender and your CPA in the conversation, so the plan for cash, taxes, and closing date lines up. Then we can focus on the house.

Family offices, LPs, and the next chapter

Later in the day, Geek Ventures hosts "From Exit to LP: Founders & Family Offices Deploying Into AI" from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM. The page describes a curated room for family offices, LPs, allocators, and founders who have exited or are about to. At 7:00 PM, team members from Fundrise's $VCX host "Investing in 2026," a dinner for executives, founders, and investors in the Inner Mission.

When founders move from operator to allocator, the home often moves with them. It becomes part of a broader balance sheet, sometimes held alongside other real estate, sometimes the anchor for a family office. Trevor and I are comfortable in that conversation, and we know when to bring in your attorney or wealth advisor.

Real estate on the agenda

One Wednesday event puts real estate on the agenda directly. "The AI Evolution of Retail Real Estate" meets in the Financial District at 6:00 PM, framed on the page as a practical discussion of how AI will enter the retail operating model. Nearby in SoMa, builders get their own room: the "SF Hardware & Robotics Showcase" meets at 795 Folsom Street, Suite 100, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM.

When real estate and builders share the same calendar, it is a good sign for anyone weighing a long-term footprint in the city.

An evening at altitude: Salesforce Tower

At the top of Salesforce Tower, the Ohana Floor hosts "Agents at Altitude" on Wednesday, October 7, from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM. Salesforce Launchpad is the host, in partnership with Fin, with SaaStr on the bill. Amelia LeRutte, Chief AI Officer at SaaStr, shows how to build agents that sell, Fin covers service agents, and Jared Thilenius of Salesforce business development walks startups through the new AgentExchange, all part of a conversation on how MCP and connected customer agents are reshaping the GTM stack. The page expects about 150 founders, builders, and GTM leaders. Rooms like this are where the next round of equity gets built, and when that stock turns liquid, Trevor and I help plan its next address, whether a city view like this one or a quieter base in the South Bay.

A Day 3 neighborhood map (verified venues only)

These are public addresses or named places from today's verified event pages. Where a page shares the address only after RSVP, I leave the street blank on purpose.

Financial District and Embarcadero. ŌURA, Able Partners, a16z, and J.P. Morgan host "The Future of Health Summit" at 8:30 AM, at J.P. Morgan's San Francisco headquarters per the page. Fenwick's "Unprompted" panel is at 1 Front Street from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, moderated by Vanessa Larco of Premise VC with founders from Sekai, Plot Party, Dream Voyage, and Coverstar. Spring Fertility and Our Third Place host a wellness mixer at Plant Connection SF, 1 Embarcadero Center, from 6:30 PM.

Rincon Hill and the waterfront. The Nordic Rooftop Happy Hour is at 221 Main Street from 5:00 PM to 8:30 PM, with Vinnova, Green Transition Initiative, Business Sweden, Team Finland, Innovation Center Denmark, and Innovation Norway named on the page. CivicNexus hosts a Tech for Good happy hour at Modernist, 139 Steuart Street, at 6:00 PM. Anthropic's Claude Founder House continues at 511 Harrison Street.

Telegraph Hill. Venture Bridge Hub hosts a Founder and Investor Rooftop Mixer at 1301 Sansome Street from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with a firepit and Bay skyline views per the page.

SoMa. Databricks for Startups hosts a networking party at Novela, 662 Mission Street, from 6:00 PM. Venturous Counsel's Female Founders and Funders Walk meets at Salesforce Park, 425 Mission Street, from 2:30 PM.

Jackson Square. The Mercury Bookstore at GCS Gallery, 201 Jackson Street, is open for its second day.

Lower Nob Hill. Fin hosts "Pioneer: A summit for CX Leaders" at the Regency Ballroom, 1300 Van Ness Avenue, from 8:45 AM to 4:45 PM.

Pacific Heights. KTH Royal Institute of Technology and the Consulate General of Sweden host Stockholm x Silicon Valley drinks from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM.

No prices or market stats here. Just the blocks where the week is happening, so you can picture which ones fit your day.

Rooftops, boats, and the Bay

Wednesday evening leans toward the water. Women + AI hosts "Making Waves," a dinner cruise aboard the San Francisco Spirit, boarding at 5:30 PM and sailing at 6:00 PM. The page describes it as an evening on the Bay "in the middle of Fleet Week." From 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, "&cruise" takes founders with ties to both San Francisco and Tokyo out on the Bay from the Fisherman's Wharf area.

Add the rooftops above, and you have a clear lifestyle pattern: work in the towers, then finish on a deck or a boat with the Bay in view. That is part of why some of our clients keep a city place for weeks like this and a quieter home base in the South Bay the rest of the year.

Mornings on the coast and in the Presidio

The most restorative events today start early. A cold Bay dip and coffee called "plunge" meets on the Crissy Field promenade at 7:30 AM. Deel and DealMaker host a Run & Raise 5K at 8:00 AM. Elo Health and Kielo Cycling host a ride from the Warming Hut at Marina Green up to Hawk Hill and back at 8:00 AM. A Retail and CPG Tech Walk leaves the Ferry Building at 8:30 AM for an easy two-mile walk toward Fisherman's Wharf.

Farther afield, "Tech Time to Tee Time" brings B2B founders, operating partners, and investors to The Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay, at 1 Miramontes Point Road, for nine holes and lunch on the terrace, hosted by 3rd + Taylor Agency.

Golf on the coast, rides into the Headlands, and runs along the water: these are the routines buyers tell us they want to keep. The right neighborhood makes them easy.

Landing in SF from elsewhere

Wednesday has several rooms for international and relocating founders. Extraordinary hosts "Here to Stay?", a founders brunch at Caché, 1235 9th Avenue, at 11:00 AM, focused on visa pathways per the page. "UK Unicorns & Rising Stars," a UK government showcase, runs in Union Square from 10:00 AM to noon. The Nordic rooftop and the Stockholm evening are both built for teams with roots abroad.

For anyone arriving, Trevor and I start with how you want to live: walkable city blocks, a waterfront routine, or space and quiet in the South Bay with an easy week-in-the-city rhythm.

Close: sequence the equity, then pick the street

Day 3 keeps the link between compensation and housing in view, even without a dedicated housing panel on today's list. My advice is simple. Get the equity plan right with your lender and your CPA, decide how much of the week you want in the city, and then let the neighborhood follow how you actually live.

If you are in San Francisco this week and your equity is starting to look like a down payment, whether that means a pied-a-terre, a primary home in Morgan Hill, or a search elsewhere in the South Bay, email us. Prefer email. We will answer directly.
