Wealth, Wellness, and the Waterfront: What SF Tech Week Day 4 Says to Founders Buying in the Bay

Thursday, October 8, is Day 4 of SF Tech Week, presented by a16z. By now most visitors have found their rhythm: a morning workout, a few panels, and an evening that ends somewhere with a view. Today's calendar sharpens three themes I care about as a real estate advisor: how wealth is created and held, how founders take care of themselves, and why the waterfront keeps drawing people back.

At The DiResta Group, Trevor and I advise founders, executives, and newcomers across San Francisco and the South Bay. Here is what Day 4 says to anyone treating a home as part of both their balance sheet and their daily life.

Scarce assets and who owns the future

This evening in the Financial District, ARK Invest hosts "Who Will Own the Future?" from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM, with the conversation starting at 7:30 PM. The event page names Cathie Wood of ARK Invest, Andre Iguodala of Mastry, and Sarah Pinto of Robinhood Ventures. Per the page, the conversation explores how AI is reshaping markets and wealth creation, and why scarce assets and experiences may become more valuable in an AI-driven world.

I will leave the market calls to the panel. What I can say from experience is that a well-located home with land, light, and a view is one of the scarcest things anyone can own, and it is something you live in every day. Trevor and I help clients think about a primary home in Morgan Hill or a pied-a-terre in the city as part of a longer plan, not a trade.

Towers on the Embarcadero

Several of Thursday's strongest rooms are inside the Embarcadero Center towers and along the waterfront.

From 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, Western Alliance Bank, TriplePoint Capital, and Manatt host "Charting Connections" at Western Alliance Bank's offices on the Embarcadero. The page invites startup finance leaders, founders, and investors for waterfront views "with the Blue Angels overhead on the bay." From 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, Fenwick, Databricks, and a16z host a Founders and Investors Happy Hour at 1 Front Street. From 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM, Morrison Foerster, Carta, and Escalon host a Founders and Funders Rooftop Party at Sens Restaurant, 4 Embarcadero Center, with skyline views described on the page. Nearby, AI Insiders hosts "AI x Longevity" at 101 California Street from 4:30 PM, hosted with Citizens Private Bank per the page, with a keynote by Ronjon Nag.

For buyers who like the idea of a city base, this cluster is useful context. The Financial District and Embarcadero are where many deals still get done, and the residential towers and walkable streets around them make it easy to be close to that energy.

Fleet Week meets Tech Week, on the water

Thursday is also when the Bay itself becomes the venue. Aboard the historic ship Klamath at Pier 9, VetsinTech and the Bay Area Council host the "National Security + Space Innovation Summit," running from 10:00 AM today through 5:00 PM Friday. The page describes it as the place "where Fleet Week meets SF Tech Week," with a featured lineup that includes Artemis II pilot Victor Glover, former Secretary of the Air Force Frank Kendall, former DIU Director Doug Beck, and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory Director Kimberly Budil. Thursday's program focuses on careers in defense tech and space and is free for veterans, service members, and military spouses, per the page.

From South Beach Harbor at Pier 40, an invite-only cruise on an 89-foot private yacht boards at 12:30 PM, departs at 1:00 PM, and returns at 5:00 PM, with the Blue Angels performance listed at 3:00 PM on the event page. And at 6:00 PM, Secria hosts a Founder and Investor Swim at Baker Beach, 1504 Pershing Drive, a sunset walk with an optional swim. The page notes the water is around 55 to 60 degrees in October.

The waterfront thread is one of the most consistent things about this week. Founders who love the Bay often want water access, a view, or at least a short drive to the coast. That is a real input when we help someone choose between a city address and a South Bay home with easy access to the shoreline and the hills.

Wellness before and after the meetings

Day 4 has some of the best wellness programming of the week. At 7:00 AM, the Sisters Female Founders Community and Nikki Ju Wellness host "Rise and Flow," a gentle yoga session at Pillsbury's offices at Four Embarcadero Center, Floor 22, which the page describes as overlooking the Embarcadero. At 8:00 AM, the Tavily & Monday Founders' Run starts at Embarcadero Plaza, 1 Market Street, with two pace groups heading toward the bridge.

At 1:00 PM, Unicorner, SimpleClosure, Descope, and Deck host "The Founder Reset" at The Melody of San Francisco, 906 Broadway, with Bolt.new CEO Eric Simons and Gaurav Bhogale of Mantis Venture Capital, plus chair massages from Mystic Wellness per the page. In the evening, Forerunner Ventures, Rho, Koah Labs, and Verci host a reset at the Sauna Garden at Alchemy Springs, 939 Post Street, with journaling, sauna, cold plunge, and tea service.

When clients describe the home they want, wellness keeps coming up: a quiet room for morning practice, space for a sauna or a pool, a garden, a trail nearby. Those are features we look for on purpose, in the city and especially in Morgan Hill.

Thursday, block by block

Each venue below is taken from today's confirmed event pages. When a host holds the address until RSVP, I leave the street out.

Financial District and Embarcadero. Pillsbury at Four Embarcadero Center, Floor 22. Sens Restaurant at 4 Embarcadero Center. Fenwick at 1 Front Street. AI Insiders at 101 California Street. Embarcadero Plaza at 1 Market Street. Western Alliance Bank's Embarcadero offices (street address not listed on the page).

Northern Waterfront and South Beach. The Klamath at Pier 9. South Beach Harbor at Pier 40.

Rincon Hill and SoMa. Reddit hosts "Built by community" at its San Francisco headquarters, 303 2nd Street, from 3:00 PM, with Reddit co-founder and former CTO Chris Slowe per the page. SFPlayground and TheThinkTank.vc host a Funders and Founders Rooftop Mixer at 795 Folsom Street from 4:00 PM. Claude Founder House at 511 Harrison Street wraps up at 1:45 PM.

Russian Hill and Lower Nob Hill. The Melody of San Francisco at 906 Broadway. Alchemy Springs at 939 Post Street.

Dogpatch. Snowflake and Google Cloud take over Sohn at 2535 3rd Street for the Cortex Cafe from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

Presidio. Baker Beach at 1504 Pershing Drive.

Jackson Square. The Mercury Bookstore at 201 Jackson Street closes at 4:00 PM today.

Think of this as a street guide rather than a price sheet: the places where Thursday comes together.

Visiting from out of town

For founders building a future in the U.S., AI Valley, MeritMap, and E1B2 host "Rally: Visa Pathways & Pickleball" in the Lower Haight from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, per the event page. If you are new to the Bay, we begin with the shape of your week, then match it to the right part of the region.

Hold the asset, protect the routine, keep the view

Day 4 connects wealth, wellness, and the waterfront more clearly than any day so far. If you are thinking about where to live after this week, I would put all three on the list: a home that holds its place in your plan, a setting that supports how you take care of yourself, and enough access to water and open space to make the week feel lighter.

Still in town and picturing a pied-a-terre near the Embarcadero, a primary home in Morgan Hill or elsewhere in the South Bay, or simply your next move? Email us. Prefer email. We will answer directly.
